Onyx
Onyx is a coveted variety of chalcedony. The attractive gemstone was already used in the manufacture of various objects in ancient times. Over the years it has been used, among other things, for the manufacture of gems and cufflinks or for the production of handicrafts. As a gemstone, it is particularly popular because of its unique onyx banding.
Onyx: Traditional impact and meaning
Onyx had its place in ancient cultures. In India and Persia, the gemstone was believed to be able to ease the pain of childbirth. The Romans used the ornamental stone primarily for handicrafts. The Greeks associated onyx with courage when it was carved with the face of a god of war. In modern stone science, onyx is used to change bad habits and relieve stress. The energies of the stone promote concentration and focus, which helps to stay focused and get things done. Due to these forces, the Onyx products from our online shop are also increasingly being used for learning.

Onyx: color and transparency
The onyx in our range is generally opaque and rarely comes in slightly translucent varieties. The well-known two-tone onyx banding shows alternating black and white layers. However, colorful bands are also possible - this variety is then referred to as agate. Chalcedonies, which have a deep, pure black, are also called onyx. The beautiful stone is found, for example, in India and Pakistan, but also in Brazil and Uruguay. However, the onyx is so popular that the natural deposits are not sufficient to cover the high demand. Because of this, many fakes exist and other gemstones such as chalcedony are sold as onyx.
Onyx: Purify, Discharge and Recharge
Once a week the Onyx should be cleaned and discharged after purchase or use. This is done under running water at a lukewarm temperature. In order to supply the gemstone with new energy, it is charged with rock crystals or sunlight.
