Garnet
The precious stone garnet is particularly sought after in the pyrope variety – when it has a deep red colour. It can be found primarily in North and South America, as well as in Sri Lanka and Switzerland. Garnet got its interesting name in the Middle Ages from a Latin word: granum. It can be translated as pit and alludes to the shape and color of the stone, which is reminiscent of pomegranate pits. Due to its intense color, garnet is a coveted gemstone and has been part of the jewelry of wealthy personalities since ancient times. More recently, a garnet brooch has been the talk of the town: it once belonged to Jackie Kennedy Onassis and fetched more than $100,000 at auction.
Garnet: Traditional Use and Importance
The garnet played a role in the ceremonies of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs as well as being a decorative accessory. It also served this purpose with the Romans of antiquity, who preferred to use it in rings. Tradition has it that Noah's ark was equipped with a lamp made of garnet, which reliably showed the way on the nights of the great flood. To this day, the red gemstone is considered the "stone of travellers" and is said to protect on the go. Friends gave each other the garnet as a promise of a reunion and as a symbol of their affection for one another. In crystal healing, it is believed that the gemstone has a supporting effect on the healing process and can give strength.

Garnet: color and transparency
The garnet can be of various colors ranging from orange and brown to green and blue, however the most significant garnet remains the deep red pyrope garnet. Together with the ruby, it was assigned to the carbuncles in earlier classification systems. The admixtures, and thus the colors, of the stone depend on the rock from which it was formed. The large color variance makes it difficult for laypersons to identify the garnet with certainty.
Garnet: Clean, Discharge and Recharge
Monthly the garnet should be cleaned and unloaded, for this it is placed in a bowl with hematites. Charging takes place via solar radiation or rock crystals.
