Selenite meaning:
Selenite is a variety of the mineral gypsum with a particularly high degree of purity, which has delicate blue reflections reminiscent of moonlight. For this reason, the Swedish mineralogist JG Wallerius gave the mineral its name in reference to the moon goddess Selene. The clear mineral was often used as a substitute for glass to protect relics and images of the Virgin Mary, which earned it the nicknames Marienglas and Frauenglas. As lapis specularis, i.e. mirror stone, selenite was known to the ancient Romans, who used it as window panes, including in the greenhouse of Emperor Tiberius. Traditionally, selenite is used to calm the mind and provide support.
