In the ancient Greek myth of the sunken city of Atlantis, Larimar plays a major role, because the inhabitants are said to have spoken with a blue stone. This legendary stone is said to have survived the fall of Atlantis as a larimar.
Larimar: Traditional Use and Importance
The Caribbean blue larimar in our range is only found in two places on earth. A European site is in Soave, Italy, but the first site is in the Dominican Republic. This is where the special variety of the mineral pectolite was discovered for the first time around half a century ago. Norman Rilling of the US Peace Corps and Dominican Miguel Méndez found the stone and named it after Méndez's daughter Larissa and the Spanish word for sea: "Mar". Although the larimar was only mined for a few decades, the deposits are almost exhausted today - for this reason the larimar is one of the very rare gemstones in our range. In energy work, the larimar is used to activate and open the throat chakra, which corresponds to this light, blue color. The modern stone customer uses the beautiful stone from our range with its sky-blue coloring when a new view of the existing is required and the view is to be lifted in a figurative sense and the distance is to be guided. The Larimar from our online shop is popular above all because of its unusual colouring, because with its radiant blue and white it is reminiscent of the shallow lagoons of the Caribbean. The chemical element vanadium is decisive for the color of the Larimar, also known as the Atlantis stone. Due to the similar coloring, it is possible to confuse larimar and turquoise. The beautiful gemstone is milky to opaque.
Larimar: cleaning, discharging and charging
For cleaning, the larimar can be regularly rinsed under running water at lukewarm temperature after purchase. The charging with positive energies takes place through a one-hour, gentle sunbath in the morning or evening hours.
